I arrived home from my summer-long nanny job, missing being a part of my nieces and nephew’s noisy but happy life. The transition to a quiet house with only two parents and a teenage brother? Quite the change.

On Tuesday I registered for early-admit college classes. As I walked around campus the first day of class, I could hardly believe that I am no longer the little girl looking up to college students. I am one.

I’m only taking eleven credits this year, but combined with taking and teaching music lessons, volunteering, and home life, I’m sure I’ll keep plenty busy. It’s strange, not having school every single day of the week. But it’s also strange to call your cousin and tell her that you have to be back from a trip by a certain time, because you have scheduled classes (that’s the homeschool student in me talking!).

I’m enjoying the changes in my life so far. Of course, I haven’t yet had to turn in my first college papers or receive a professor’s grade marked in red. But I’m looking forward to the challenge, and I’m thankful for the preparation these classes will give me for next year, when I enter college for real.

They must often change, who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.

I really enjoy the quote you posted! My thoughts on change surrounded how miserable people must be when they resist change… and yet change is so constant. So what a fun thought that true happiness and wisdom must come through change as well… and I definitely agree. It’s true for me anyway… that change, good and bad, teaches me to appreciate what life gives me for the seasons in which I have it… and to break from the life of monotony and truly live. As you are doing! Even though it’s painful to leave what has been familiar- you are stepping out in courage, even excitement, for this new chapter of life. What a great outlook on your experience! I pray that it’s a beautiful time in your life! 🙂
