Cake decorating

A new hobby for me this spring is cake decorating. Although I knew that my weekly schedule really couldn’t handle one more addition, the opportunity to take cake classes from a talented, almost-retired cake decorator was too good to resist. Learning new decorating skills and tricks each week is so fun, and I look forward to using whatever talents I may learn now in the future.

Baby shower cake-complete with booties made out of marshmallows.

Mum cake…I tried doing reverse shells for the border, but I couldn’t quite get the hang of it. Thankfully my family decided to eat it, instead of me selling it!

My first special request was a pig birthday cake. Originally the pig was going to be 3D, but eventually he devolved into a stenciled pig.

Of course, these cupcakes weren’t part of my class, but I had to do them for the Super Bowl. I found the basic ideas online, but let me tell you, those Patriot cupcakes were challenging. I mean, a profile that really isn’t  a profile, with a tri-cornered hat? Maybe that’s one of the reasons I don’t like that team. 🙂 I was ecstatic when the Giants won, but not just because their cupcakes were so easy to decorate.
